THCC Leadership Team
Tower Hamlets Community Church is one church that meets in two different locations on a Sunday morning. We have a Main Leadership Team (MLT) and Staff Team who work across both sites, and Congregational Leadership Teams (CLT) responsible for the day to day leadership of each congregation.
Main Leadership Team
Our MLT is responsible for setting the overall direction of vision, values, partnerships and teaching. The MLT fulfills the function of what the Bible calls elders. We expect our eldership to teach Biblical truth, model Christ-like behaviour, maintain doctrine, oversee financial matters and take a lead in praying for the sick.
Senior Pastor
Tony is half Bengali, half Scottish and 100% South London council estate. He’d like to have been a stand up comedian, but found a calling more suited to his gifts and became our pastor. He found faith as a teenager, was taught some sense of order by his German wife, and is passionate about growing inter-cultural church.

Elder
Gary is an Eastender to his bones (we avoid taking him outside the M25 to save him from the shock). After returning from mission work in Athens with his family, he worked for over a decade with the homeless and marginalised across London. He now pastors our Lighthouse congregation as a full time Staff Elder.

Caroline is a Londoner from a Chinese-Malaysian family. She’s a foodie through and through and can always be relied on for generous hospitality. After finding Jesus in her 30s, she developed a heart for raising leaders from the margins, and pastors our Husk congregation part time as well as running the operations side of church.

Nikson has been heard to say that he was manufactured in Bangladesh, made in heaven. Fortunately for us, neither the weather nor British humour put him off moving to the UK around 20 years ago. He leads the Bengali Christian Fellowship, using his gift of gently but clearly sharing the good news of Jesus.

Elder (on sabbatical)
James was born and bred in Tower Hamlets. He has been in the thick of THCC all his adult life. Even a stint as youth pastor didn't put him off, though it did confirm that he doesn't like camping and really, really doesn't like wasps. He has a masters in multimedia and a gift for relating to people from many different backgrounds.

Simon grew up in the country. He spent much of his youth staring at nature, but eventually came to his senses and moved to Tower Hamlets. He denies rumours that he once knew Adam and Eve, but admits to being a little older than most in the church. Simon has a passion for details and keeps our finances in order.
Simon Kempson
Elder
Bex was almost born and was certainly bred in Tower Hamlets. She thought she’d escaped the East End when she went to Cambridge University, but God had better plans and brought her home. She’s been the CEO of a charity and a local Councillor. She is never happier than with her nose in a book, eating a grapefruit.

Our staff team work alongside the MLT and CLTs to support the day to day running of the church, bringing leadership and expertise to their area of responsibility.
