Job Title: Outreach Worker
Reports To: Staff Elders
Salary: £30K
Contract: 3 year fixed-term contract with 6 month probation period
Benefits: 30 days annual leave, 10% pension once probation is completed
Hours: 40 hours per week
Training: Full training will be provided in the essential requirements of the role, along with a regular supervision structure.

Background to THCC

Tower Hamlets Community Church is an intercultural and intergenerational church firmly rooted in London’s East End, and part of the Assemblies of God network of pentecostal churches. We currently meet as two congregations and a Bengali Fellowship. We have a strong outward focus and serve the local unchurched community through a variety of projects including children's and youth work, a weekly community lunch, our Common Space drop in and other initiatives including a night-shelter for homeless people which we run in partnership with other local evangelical churches. We are in an exciting season of growth and we are currently looking to plant two more congregations. 

Role Summary

We are seeking a passionate and motivated person to help strengthen and co-ordinate our outreach ministries including the development of more targeted outreach initiatives in the areas (Poplar and Stepney) that we are looking to grow two new congregations in. You will be evangelistically motivated and confident in sharing the Gospel and equipping others to do so. This role involves significant time spent in direct evangelistic work. You will not be merely facilitating others but leading through doing and developing others at the same time.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement & Mission

  • Build genuine, ongoing relationships with local residents across cultures, ages, and backgrounds.

  • Be a visible, compassionate Christian presence in the neighbourhood.

  • Identify opportunities for building our outreach in estates, schools, community hubs, and local networks.

  • Support and develop existing outreach ministries such as our community drop in, community meals, youth engagement, and book table.

  • Help pioneer new mission initiatives shaped by local needs and the leading of the Holy Spirit.

  • Building teams around outreach opportunities

Evangelism & Discipleship

  • Share the Gospel clearly, relationally, and respectfully.

  • Walk alongside new believers and seekers, helping them explore faith and grow spiritually.

  • Lead or support small groups, Alpha-style courses, or discipleship pathways.

  • Encourage and equip church members to live missionally in their everyday lives.

Practical Ministry & Administration

  • Assist with planning, organising, and delivering outreach events.

  • Keep accurate records of activities, contacts, and safeguarding concerns.

  • Contribute to Sunday gatherings when required through prayer, testimony, welcome, or support roles.

  • Participate in team meetings, training, and supervision.
