THCC 6 - 3 Ecclesia 2008

Starting line-up: Danny Fitz (GK), Jonathan John (LB), Matt Taylor (CB), Michael Penman (CB), Jamal Holder (RB), Lee Thomson (LW), Luke Bingham (CM), Mark Bowtell (CM), Luke Williams (RW), Israel Toko (ST), Stephen Bingham (ST)  Bench: Jimmy Nimmo

Intro: Ecclesia started with only 8 men but the Tower boys were finding it hard to get a break through despite some good pressure. The pitch was a mess after the arctic conditions of the previous week which didn't make it easy for us to demonstrate our silky passing play. It was going to be a messy one.

Goals soon came with Lee (twice) and Israel getting on the score sheet assisted by good play from Jamal and Luke Williams. They were both team goals finished by two players who have been prolific going forward this season with their goals and assists (see the stats section). The best goal of the day came when Israel near the edge of the box laid the ball back to Bowtell who side-footed a floater into the air. It moved in the wind and went in off the post at the top right angle of the goal. By contrast, Stephen Bingham got the easisest tap in he'll ever hope for when a corner came back out to Lee who played the ball across the face of the goal to the well-posisitioned forward.

HT (5 - 0): In the second half Tower took their foot off the gas and paid the price. Ecclesia got a deserved 3 goals back in quick succession. With thte fear of letting the game slip, Tower picked up again and got a sixth goal to settle the matter. Luke Williams bearing down on goal, followed up his own shot which came back off the keeper and bravely despatched the rebound before being knocked down by the oncoming keeper! The rest of the game was a well fought battle and Tower showed resilience to hold onto the win with Luke Bingham helping out the defence in the holding role he oftens takes when Tower need to close up shop.

MoM: Mark Bowtell
